

Philadelphia, PA -- Third-generation pharmacist Gary W. Kadlec, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hospice Pharmacia and excelleRx, Inc, is the 2010 recipient of the American Pharmacists Association’s (APhA) Hugo H. Schaefer Award.
Established in 1964 by the oldest pharmacy association in the nation, APhA, to honor the organization’s treasurer, the Schaefer award recognizes outstanding voluntary contributions to the organization, the profession, and society. APhA’s award is one of the highest honors achieved in the pharmacy industry.
On being recognized for his contributions to pharmacy, Gary said, “I am honored to be recognized by the American Pharmacists Association. The dedication of the APhA and its members to the appropriate use of medications inspires me to bring the same commitment to the pharmacy community through my personal involvement and professional work within Hospice Pharmacia and excelleRx.”
Gary began his career as a pharmacist at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Michigan. From 1976 to 1995 he was owner and president of Specialized Pharmacy Services, Inc. In 1995, Specialized Pharmacy Services was acquired by Omnicare, Inc., where Gary served as Regional Vice President and later Senior Regional Vice President. In 2004, Gary joined excelleRx, where he currently is CEO and President. Under Gary’s leadership, excelleRx continues to develop into a state-of-the-art Medication Management Center that is providing cutting edge pharmacy service.
Gary is involved with numerous organizations within the pharmacy community, including the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, the International Pharmaceutical Federation, the National Community Pharmacists Association, and the Michigan Pharmacist Association.
He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Michigan Pharmacists Association’s Pharmacist of the Year, Merck’s Outstanding Achievement in the Profession of Pharmacy, and a Distinguished Achievement Award in Administrative Practice from APhA’s Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management.
